Staff Database Engineer

About this role

As a Staff Database Engineer, you'll be the technical leader for all things database at PicaDeck. You'll architect our core schema diffing and migration algorithms, ensuring they work flawlessly across PostgreSQL, MySQL, and more.

What you'll do

• Lead the architecture of our schema diffing and migration engine
• Design algorithms for safe, zero-downtime database migrations
• Build parsers and generators for multiple SQL dialects
• Optimize migration performance for large-scale databases
• Research and implement cutting-edge database technologies
• Mentor engineers and establish database best practices
• Collaborate with product to define the roadmap for database features

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of experience with database systems
• Deep expertise in PostgreSQL and MySQL internals
• Experience building database tooling or migration systems
• Strong understanding of SQL parsing and query optimization
• Experience with distributed databases and replication
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Track record of leading technical projects

Nice to have

• Contributions to database open-source projects
• Experience with other databases (SQLite, SQL Server, Oracle)
• Background in compiler design or language parsing
• Published research or blog posts on database topics
• Experience with database performance tuning at scale
