Senior Backend Engineer

About this role

We're seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build the infrastructure powering PicaDeck. You'll design and implement APIs, work on our migration engine, and ensure our platform scales reliably for thousands of users.

What you'll do

• Design and implement RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Node.js/TypeScript
• Build and optimize our automatic migration generation engine
• Architect scalable database schemas and optimize query performance
• Implement real-time collaboration infrastructure using WebSockets
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment infrastructure
• Ensure security best practices across all backend services
• Mentor team members and contribute to engineering culture

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Node.js or similar
• Deep understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Experience designing and building APIs at scale
• Strong knowledge of system design and distributed systems
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills

Nice to have

• Experience with database migration tools or schema management
• Knowledge of multiple database systems (MongoDB, Redis, etc.)
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerization
• Background in developer tools or infrastructure products
• Open-source contributions
